An off-duty New York City police officer killed during a two-vehicle crash in Lynbrook has been identified.

Vincent Persaud, 31, who was stationed at the 101st Precinct in Far Rockaway, was killed around 6:49 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, during a two-vehicle crash near the Hempstead Avenue intersection, said officials with the Lynbrook Police Department.

Persaud recently moved to Long Island from Queens and is survived by a pregnant wife, according to the New York Daily News.

Members of the 101st Precinct posted on Twitter the loss of Persaud.

"Saddened to hear of the passing of Police Officer Vincent Persaud, 101st Precinct, who died from an off duty vehicle collision this morning," they wrote. "Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and fellow officers. May he Rest In Peace."

During the crash, Persaud's vehicle veered off the roadway after colliding with the other vehicle.

The other driver, who has not been identified, received minor injuries, police said.

Following the crash, Persaud was rushed to Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, he added.

The Nassau County Police are assisting with the investigation.
